St John’s Care Home Visit

Apr / 2021

Dear Lesley,

For the first time since October last year, I had the pleasure to visit Dad under the latest visit condition at St John’s Care Home. As required I had to book in for a Flow Test at 10.30 and allow half an hour for a result which required me to pass some time. As fortune dictated the morning weather presented a clear blue sky with the gardens sheltered by the aspect and semi-shaded areas. I must say that all credit to you all and the garden team the visit was very special and it was all co-ordinated without any concern.

As I had twenty minutes in hand I wandered down to the Kitchen garden area to find it all in such perfect order for this early part of Spring time with all the beds raked and planted and paths trimmed for access. The garden looked spectacular with trees beautifully pruned back and the lush green lawns cut to perfect order enhanced by bird song. The garden was blessed with benches spaced out to give a little privacy and seated looking towards the Home it was such a contrast to the now busy Cowley Road /Magdalen Road part of East Oxford, a green lush and quiet haven for peaceful retirement if one wishes. So a big thank you for the effort by your garden team.

I am impressed with the care that you all have been responsible for in these very tough days throughout this ghastly pandemic. Dad looked very well indeed and looked very smart and much as when I last saw him six months ago. I don’t know who his Care team are presumably in his allotted bubble but they have been amazing and clearly dedicated and a friend to him in these months of almost prison-like condition imposed by Covid. I did briefly speak to one of his support team on a phone when he was tested positive and she was delightful and reassuring that he was alright and said that they had a cuddle which is what the residents all need I am sure. A bit of humility and contact goes a long way. I was almost tearful to see him once again and it is such a blessing that you all are able to look after him. It was sheer luck when I knocked on the door and you were so helpful and showed me around immediately and suggested that two rooms were available and in an area that Dad is familiar with.

Thank you all for your dedication.
