St John’s Care Home provides high quality residential care for up to 38 people. Located in the heart of central Oxford, St John’s was initially built as a hospital for the poor before becoming a residential care home in the mid-1900s. This historic building in unique surroundings has been a place of care for more than 150 years.
Our professional, fully trained staff ensure that everyone’s lifestyle choice and dignity are respected. Overseen by an experienced and highly visible Home Manager, residents receive 24/7 personal care from a skilled team of senior carers and care assistants. Whilst we do care for residents with more advanced health conditions, St John’s also offers an ideal environment for active, independent elderly people who enjoy being part of a community.
We respect your
loved one’s choices
The happiness and wellbeing of our residents is at the heart of everything we do. Every person has a choice in how they want to life their life. Our priority is to respect these wishes and ensure every individual feels safe, comfortable and well cared for.

St Johns
Welcome to our Oxford care home
A friendly, warm atmosphere awaits at St John’s. You’ll find armchairs in the corridors to sit and chat, snug and cosy communal lounges, a grand staircase and an ornate dining room where we serve balanced, nutritious meals. There’s even a bar if residents fancy a tipple at the end of the day. Our beauty salon enables residents to look and feel their best.
The garden and outdoor areas are pleasant green spaces in which to enjoy time with other residents and visiting friends and family.

Room Facilities
Each room is equipped with a single bed, wardrobe, drawer units, mirror, armchair, basin, television, and a call bell. We can accommodate couples and residents are welcome to bring personal effects such as photographs, soft furnishings, to make their room feel homely.

Activity programme
Our activity coordinators are responsible for curating a varied programme of activities for all interests. We have strong links with the local community, including volunteer groups and schools, whose pupils often visit to put on seasonal and musical performances.
Although pets are not permitted in our homes, we have regular visits from a PAT registered dog. Over the years, we’ve welcomed a variety of animals, birds, and even penguins to our home!
We offer a range of creative activities in designated activity rooms, including painting, arts, crafts and games. For the culture vultures, there are trips out into the city, and to local gardens and museums.

Overview of services
Our expertise is gained from looking after people for more than 40 years; ensuring their health and wellbeing needs are met, treating everyone with dignity and respect. We are passionate about delivering the best quality care possible; whether that is in one of our residential homes or in the individual’s own home.
We strongly believe that providing quality care involves not just health care and nursing abilities; but also by supporting our staff and providing the right working environment. Through regular surveys, visits from the management team and input from our carers, we work hard to ensure the level of care provided meets our high standards and the needs.
